CoolSculpting is a completely non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that reduces fat in targeted areas, such as the belly, hips, thighs, and under the chin.

CoolSculpting: How It Works

Even if you regularly exercise and maintain a healthy diet, sometimes you’re left with stubborn fat cells that just do not respond to these efforts. For these resistant areas, CoolSculpting offers a proven, non-invasive way to eliminate fat—without needles, surgery, anesthesia, or downtime. Through a comfortable, in-office procedure, you can get transformational results.

CoolSculpting is a powerful, FDA-approved fat-freezing procedure that sculpts and shapes the body. It can even target areas that are notoriously hard to treat, like the thighs and belly.

Here’s how it works: the CoolSculpting device gently delivers controlled cooling to the treatment area. Through this process, fat cells are destroyed without the surrounding tissues being harmed. The dead fat cells are then naturally processed and eliminated by the body, eventually revealing a slimmer, more sculpted shape.

CoolSculpting is one of the most effective, non-surgical fat reduction options available on the market today, and it is the only procedure that uses controlled cooling technology to target problem areas.

Is CoolSculpting Right for You?

CoolSculpting is an excellent option for both men and women who want to reduce fat in areas such as:

  • Belly
  • Love handles
  • Back fat and bra bulge
  • Inner and outer thighs
  • Under the chin
  • Upper arms

Ideal candidates should be in good health and at a fairly stable weight since significant weight fluctuations may affect your overall results. It’s important to understand that while CoolSculpting is excellent at spot reduction, it is not a weight loss procedure.

New Orleans CoolSculpting - FAQ

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment that can reduce fat deposits virtually anywhere on the body. It can reduce fat pockets without any patient downtime allowing for normal activity immediately after treatment.

CoolSculpting works by freezing fat cells at an optimal temperature that causes the fat cells to die and leads to the shrinking of fat layers under the skin. The body naturally removes the dead fat cells, which causes the areas to shrink over time.

CoolSculpting works by a proprietary system that protects the skin from damage from the cold. The temperature is constantly maintained in a safe way in which to not damage the skin while killing the fat cells at the same time.

It is never a good idea to use ice on the skin for an extended period of time. Using any cold packs or ice for extensive amounts of time on the skin can cause frostbite in the skin and lead to really bad outcomes— and it also wouldn’t help the fat.

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment. There is minimal soreness to the touch of the areas treated right after the treatment that can last a few days. Some sites may feel slightly numb after treatment for a few days (this is more common on arms and stomachs). Bruising is rare with CoolSculpting, except in those who are prone to bruising.

Because CoolSculpting relies on the body processing the dead fat cells away from the area, it takes some time to see the treatment’s results. Patients begin to see some changes in the areas treated starting around week 3. Results continue to improve for three months after. For patients who need multiple treatments for optimal results, retreatment of the areas usually occurs in 4-6 weeks.

Because CoolSculpting using the body’s metabolism to remove the fat, there is no compression needed, and there isn’t really anything that patients need to do. The most important thing is to maintain a good diet and exercise routine to maintain a healthy weight.

Fat deposits under the skin are the hardest to lose with diet and exercise. Exercise and dieting increase metabolism and are essential; however, you can’t spot-reduce fat deposits by working out. CoolSculpting can target stubborn areas of fat without weight loss.

Treatments with CoolSculpting are really easy. Most areas only take 35 minutes to complete one CoolSculpting treatment. During the treatment, patients are in a comfortable chair and are allowed to watch movies, work on a computer or phone, or sleep. The area treated starts to become cold then goes numb with only minimal discomfort at the very beginning of the treatments. After the treatments, a light massage is done to the areas treated.

CoolSculpting can work on almost any area of the body. The neck, arms, back, abdomen, thighs, and knees can all be potential treatment targets.

CoolSculpting treatments take about 35 minutes per area treated. Some sites like the neck take a little longer.

After CoolSculpting treatments, the dying fat is metabolized by the body naturally. The fat cells can be reprocessed into our body or excreted.

The great thing about CoolSculpting versus invasive fat reduction techniques is that there is no downtime. Patients can resume all normal activities, including exercise, immediately after treatment.

Depending on the person and specific treatment areas, it may take more than one treatment to get optimal results. If additional treatments are needed, these are usually done at 4-6 weeks after the first treatment.

CoolSculpting uses an external suction cup to grasp the fat deposit and freeze it. There are no needles, incisions, or numbing needed. CoolSculpting treatments leave no sign behind after treatment.

The best candidates for CoolSculpting are patients who are already maintaining a good diet and exercise routine who have small stubborn areas to treat. CoolSculpting treatments are not weight-loss treatments and are not a substitute for diet and exercise.

“Beer Bellies” are caused by fatty deposits underneath the muscle, and CoolSculpting or Liposuction cannot remove this fat. This kind of fat deposit can put patients at risk for long term cardiac damage and Diabetes. Unfortunately, the only way to reduce this type of fat is through diet and exercise.

Thanks to the proprietary cooling system that constantly controls temperature, the skin is untouched during CoolSculpting treatments. After CoolSculpting treatments, as the fat cells are being removed, the skin contracts in these areas. Many patients worry about the potential for loose skin after treatment; however, CoolSculpting has been shown to actually tighten skin as the fat cells are being metabolized.

There are very few precautions with CoolSculpting. A consultation prior to your treatment is necessary to make sure you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. Patients with hernias can be treated with CoolSculpting, but make sure to make the doctor aware of any hernias present, so these can be avoided.

CoolSculpting works best on localized fat deposits. For patients with larger deposits or those desiring more contouring, liposuction can be a better solution.

CoolSculpting has been shown to be very effective at treating localized fat deposits. Compared to other treatments, more fat is removed per session of CoolSculpting than with any other available non-invasive treatment.

CoolSculpting costs can vary depending on the areas treated and the number of treatments required.   There are different size treatments for distinct areas of the body, so it is best to get a consultation to understand the type and number of treatments needed to get the results you want.
