About the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the largest voluntary health agency devoted to blood cancer patients in the world. Their mission is to find cures for Myeloma, Hodgkin’s disease, Lymphoma, and Leukemia and help enhance the lives of those afflicted and their families. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society funds blood cancer research globally and offers information and support services free of charge.
LLS operates with the Cancer Financial Assistance Coalition (C-FAC), which aids cancer patients to overcome their financial burdens by:
- Advocating for cancer patients regarding the financial challenges that arise with cancer care.
- Informing providers and patients about links and resources available to them.
- Helping their members collaborate and communicate.
They also offer Financial Assistance through:
- Co-Pay Assistance Program – This program offers support toward insurance costs like co-payments and premiums toward prescription drugs for patients who qualify financially and medically.
- Susan Long Pay-It-Forward Travel Assistance Program – This program is available to blood cancer patients with financial hardships who qualify for financial assistance for approved expenses like lodging, air travel, and ground transportation
- Other Programs – These include prescription savings programs, state and county programs, clinical trials, and more.
“LLS is where it is today because it has groomed a remarkable generation of scientists and physician-scientists who have led the extraordinary advances in treatment of hematologic malignancies.”
~ Gary Gilliland, MD, Ph.D., President of Fred Hutchison Comprehensive Cancer Center
After losing their teenage son to leukemia in 1944, Rudolph and Antoinette Roesler de Villiers established the first embodiment of what became The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in 1949.
It had an immediate impact on major advancements and treatments thought to be revolutionary in the 1950s and 1960s.
LLS has followed these advancements alongside dedicated doctors and researchers throughout the decades since. Their efforts are still achieving amazing results.
