How Laser Hair Removal Works

During laser hair removal, with the vacuum assisted technology, the handpiece will be passed over the treatment area, and your skin will be gently drawn into it using vacuum-assisted technology. Laser energy is then applied to your skin, targeting the pigment in your hair follicles. This destroys unwanted hair and prevents new growth in that area.

Throughout this process, your skin will be continuously cooled by the handpiece, which helps maximize comfort. Similarly, because the skin is drawn into the handpiece, it is closer to the energy source and therefore requires a lower fluency (energy density). As a result, less energy is absorbed by the epidermis, making it safer than other types of laser hair removal treatments.

For smaller areas, the device used a Chilltip technology that precools the skin prior to the laser which leads to more comfortable treatments compared to other laser hair removal technology. As a results, higher energies can be used to make the treatment more effective and safe.

Before & After

New Orleans Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Your dermatologist will clean the area before beginning the treatment. Patients can request a numbing gel that will minimize any sensations during the procedure.

During the procedure, everyone in the room will use protective eyewear.

To begin the procedure, the expert team at Etre cosmetic dermatology will hold your skin taut and stretched to maximize the area treated by the laser. The laser will then run over the treatment area, eliminating hair and hair follicles.

The process’s duration depends entirely on the size of the area being treated. Treating the upper lip, for example, takes five minutes. Treating the legs can take over an hour.

Most patients say the laser feels like a rubber band being snapped against the skin, with many of them not needing a numbing agent. Of course, if you prefer, we have numbing gels available that can make you more comfortable during the procedure.

The most important aspect of allowing your skin to bounce back from laser hair removal is to avoid sunlight. Your skin may feel like it has been mildly sunburnt after treatment, and is sensitive as it heals from the process.

So long as patients stay out of direct sunlight for a few days following treatment, they should recover perfectly.

Most patients can return to their regular routines immediately after laser hair removal. Exercise is no problem, just remember to stay out of the sun until your skin has fully recovered from the procedure.

This depends on the patients, but most patients’ hair will not return for many months, or even years. Follow up treatments can maximize results of laser hair removal, and you can discuss this with your dermatologist.
